Trends, forecasts and challenges of the packaging market in 2023

One thing we know that nothing is certain in business. We thought that unpredictable stories are already behind us. Nothing could be further from the truth. The 2022 year showed us that much can still surprise us. What seemed stable yesterday is no longer the case today and we are talking about the technological aspect, changes in the law and the situation on the market. Global politics, corporate ethics, legal changes and consumer awareness will clash and merge. It will be creating new challenges for the packaging industry in 2023. We want to share our predictions about trends and forecasts for the industry for the coming months.

  1. The packaging industry in the face of market turmoil

Currently the most important topics for us are the consequences of the war in Ukraine and the disruption of the global market of energy resources, which translates into a significant increase in operating costs. After the raw materials crisis, we have to deal with soaring prices of energy, gas and inflation. However, we know that as a company we have to do our job and move forward, of course not underestimating the risks that surround us. Our task is to guarantee the continuity of production and the appropriate pricing policy, taking into account changes in the market environment. At Preston Packaging we have taken appropriate steps to minimize the risk of disrupting production stability and to transfer increases (energy, wages) to our customers as little as possible. We are also aware that our Partners are looking for savings on various levels. Planning and optimizing the execution of orders allows you to obtain more favorable prices. Ordering the production of more packaging will allow us to offer a better unit price. For the customer, it is also a safe solution for repetitive orders and securing its continuity of production.

  1. Digitization of processes

In business reaction time is very important for effective operation. Increasingly shorter deadlines for order fulfillment are a requirement of customers today. At Preston Packaging, we listen to these needs and take actions that will improve our cooperation. Therefore, when looking for an area that would increase our competitiveness, we chose a system that would shorten the time of preparing and accepting files for printing and at the same time improve resource management. By CLOUDFLOW®, we implement all the above assumptions. The project is at an advanced stage of implementation and will bring many benefits for our further cooperation with clients.

CLOUDFLOW® is a modular platform for asset management, production file processing, soft proofing and process automation. Thanks to the implementation of CLOUDFLOW®, order handling, acceptance and prepress processes will be fully automated. And the handling of PDF files, preview of color separation or proofing will be carried out by automated processes in the cloud. This allows you to keep access to information about the order 24/7 from anywhere in the world. We focus on guaranteeing the highest level of customer service and communication with them. CLOUDFLOW® means time saving and effective cooperation!

  1. Ecology and care for the natural environment

For many years we have been observing the emphasis on real environmental protection, not only from customers but also from European Union institutions and through the implementation of new regulations and changes in the law. There is a growing emphasis on packaging that is sustainable and ecological, i.e. packaging that reduces the burden on the environment. Consumers are also increasingly sensitive to greenwashing. The paper is made from renewable sources and the packaging is easily recyclable. At Preston Packaging, we focus on educating our customers in this area, advising them in the selection of raw materials and finishes. Companies are expected to be much more interested in actually saving the environment. Companies measure their carbon or ecological footprint. This trend is also supported by the European Union. At Preston Packaging, we know how important sustainable production is to the environment. We informed about our activities in this area in the article devoted to ESG. We take a number of actions to help our clients act in a sustainable way. In the production of packaging, we minimize the free space in the packaging, matching it perfectly to the products that are to be inside. Trust the experience of our specialists who will choose the right finish and raw materials for your products.

  1. Trends in cosmetic packaging

Consumers more and more often declare that they are more willing to buy products packed in ecological packaging. They expect changes, social responsibility and orientation towards ecological values from brands. Packaging manufacturers need to deliver physical, emotional, visual, digital and environmental features that match consumers’ changing lifestyles. Packaging remains an integral part of the cosmetics experience of consumers. Thanks to sustainable materials, we can package the product in a sustainable solution that consumers will appreciate. Minimalism in design also affects the perception of packaging, and thus brands, in a positive way in terms of environmental protection. Our technologists will be happy to help you in the selection of refinements and suggest what solutions to use to make the packaging recyclable.

  1. Trends inpackaging for medicinal products

Packaging manufacturers are required to guarantee a greater level of product safety. Pharmaceutical packaging is an essential element of medicinal products, and is also the basic carrier of information for patients. This is what medicinal manufacturers who are looking for suppliers of packaging solutions should focus on. The pressure to develop sustainable, environmentally friendly products is huge and extends to pharmaceutical packaging as well. The development of sustainable packaging is a difficult task due to the need to achieve a balance between safety and market trends. The pharmaceutical industry and manufacturing technologies are constantly evolving. The primary function of packaging is to protect the product. The logistic and information function is also important. As in other sectors, also in pharmacy packaging has a marketing function. The lack of full freedom in the field of packaging does not prevent the shaping of specific trends and the introduction of improvements in the subject matter. Legal requirements and trends are the answer to the significant challenges of this industry, which are especially important from the point of view of the patient.
