Trends and challenges in the packaging industry in 2022

Trends in the packaging industry become every year but some of them have been with us for several years. Manufacturers take up new challenges and create innovative solutions. The printing market is facing new consumer expectations and their behavior determines the directions of development. We have looked at it and made a list of trends and challenges that are in front of the packaging industry in 2022.
  1. Paper

Or rather, difficulties related to broken supply chains and a lack of raw materials on the market. Last year was extremely difficult in this matter. The demand for paper definitely exceeds the supply. The pandemic, broken chains and the very rapid development of e-commerce have a huge impact on the shortage of paper and delays in deliveries. Additionally, paper prices are now much higher than a year ago. Experts predict that this problem will be continue until at least mid-2022. It is a huge challenge for a packaging printing house to ensure continuity of production for customers. At Preston Packaging, we have taken appropriate steps to minimize the risk of production disruptions. We know how important it is to ensure the continuity of supplies and we constantly monitor the situation. We are waiting for an improvement in the economic situation on the raw materials market.

The word “ecology” has been inflected in all cases in recent years and has found its place in almost every industry. There is no planet B and consumers are aware that. Research shows that they are able to pay more for a product which is “green”. This also important for the packaging in which the products are stored. Comprehensive digitization and process automation are the way to achieve the greatest possible business flexibility, simplify processes and cost optimization. This process was called Industry 4.0. We are aware of these inevitable changes that are to help us in our daily work. We follow them to keep pace with our customers and employees.

Traditionally, each year brings new trends in packaging design. According to experts, the richness of colors and energetic combinations will reign supreme. The graphic trends include designs with gradients, retro styles, surreal creations, minimalism and nature inspiration.
